102 Halifaxes from 408, 415, 420, 425, 426, 427, 429, and 432
Squadrons were ordered on an attack at Worms. The crews were over
the target at between 17,000 and 19,000 feet, releasing 224,000
lbs of high explosives and 387,000 lbs of incendiaries. According
to reports severe damage was caused.

NR-290 coded PT-K, were attacked by an unidentified single engine
enemy aircraft. Strikes were seen and it was claimed probable as
it was on fire.
P/O E. Cole landed at Mendlesham Heath on
return as the hydraulics were u/s.

crews from 427 Squadron departed base at between 16:19 and 16:47
hours, they were over the target at between 20:36 and 20:42
hours, returning to base at between 23:32 and 23:59 hours

G. Tegerdine and crew flying Halifax III MZ-452 coded ZL-E
attacked an ME-110 in the target area while flying at 18,000 feet
at 20:42 hours. It was clear with the moon on the starboard beam.
There was searchlight, flak and flares all working at the same
time. The fighter was seen attacking another Halifax on the port
quarter up.
No
combat manoeuvre was taken by the other Halifax and as the
fighter was breaking off its attack on the port quarter up and
climbing, it over flew this Halifax. Both gunners opened fire on
it underside with many strikes seen on the fuselage and starboard
engine of the ME-110. The fighter then jettisoned more red flares
and flew out of sight. It was claimed as damaged.

W. Towne and crew flying Halifax III RG-347 coded ZL-G were
damaged by flak in the target area while flying at 17,300 feet,
it was not serious. They were also attacked at position
49:35N-08:15E while flying at 17,300 feet on the homeward journey
at 20:40 hours by an unidentified enemy aircraft. The weather was
clear, no cloud with the moon directly above. It was first seen
by the rear gunner making an attack from the starboard quarter.
The fighter then passed to the port quarter, where the rear
gunner opened fire. It dipped its wing and came in astern, many
strikes were seen on the enemy aircraft and it caught fire and
dove to the ground, it was claimed as destroyed.

Halifax III MZ-755 coded ZL-R, were attacked by a unidentified
single engine aircraft, many strikes were seen and it burst into
flames and broke in two pieces, it was claimed destroyed.

419, 424, 428, 431, and 434 Squadrons were ordered on an attack
at Duisberg. The crews were over the target at between 16,000 and
19,500 feet, releasing 333,000 lbs of high explosives and 389,000
lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, bombing was
concentrated and severe damage was caused.

NG-457 coded QB-C, were attacked by a unknown aircraft, there was
no damage.

strikes were seen.

the stbd inner was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
