June 12/13, 1943

    38 Halifaxes from 408, 419, and 427 Squadrons were ordered on an attack at Bochum. The crews were over the target at between 16,000 and 20,000 feet, releasing 64,000 lbs of high explosives and 123,000 lbs of incendiaries. According to reports, the target was cloud covered but severe damage was done.

    F/O G. Large RCAF–POW and crew, flying Halifax II JB-790 coded EQ-V, from 408 Squadron failed to return from this operation.

    Sgt A. Austin and Sgt J. McIntosh from 419 Squadron returned early as they had engines u/s. They both landed at base safely on 3 engines.
    F/O C. MacIntosh returned early as the radios were u/s.
    F/O S. Heard returned early as the intercom was u/s.
    Sgt C. Coutlee was attacked by a JU-88, it was claimed destroyed.
    F/Sgt M. Gray was attacked by a JU-88, it was claimed destroyed.
    Sgt B. Kirkham RCAF–POW and crew, flying Halifax II DT-616 coded VR-K, failed to return from this operation.

     3 crew were POWs and 4 were killed after being shot down by a Nightfighter.
     

    While the Halifaxes went to Bochum, 12 Wellingtons from 429, 431, and 432 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation to the Frisian Islands and St. Nazaire. The crews were over the garden at between 700 and 5,000 feet, sowing 16@1500 lb mines.

    P/O J. Lancaster, W/O K. Mills and F/Lt G. Pentony from 429 Squadron returned to base, as their navigation aids were u/s.

    F/O C. Hess from 432 Squadron returned early, as the navigation aids were u/s.
