32 Lancasters from 408 and 419 Squadrons were joined by 117 Halifaxes
from 420, 424, 425, 426, 427, 429, and 432 Squadrons on an attack of the
military camp at Bourg Leopold. The crews were over the target at between
8,000 and 12,000 feet, releasing 1,191,000 lbs of high explosives.
According to reports, bombing was accurate.
F/O A. Bryson from 408 Squadron landed at North Pickenham on return
due to fog at base.
F/Sgt C. Reid, P/O W. McIntyre, F/Lt H. McIver, F/O A. Quinlan, and
F/O J. Faulder landed at Croft on return due to fog at base.
F/Sgt W. Spafford, F/Lt F. Rader, F/Sgt G. Boehmer, S/Ldr F. Hales,
and F/Lt J. Weis landed at Bruntingthorpe on return due to fog at base.
P/O D. Snider landed at Methwold on return due to fog at base.
Sgt D. Andrews landed at Wittering on return due to fog at base.
F/Lt S. Frankling, W/O1 C. McLeod, F/Sgt W. Cooke, P/O J. McCaffrey,
and F/O F. Brice landed at Downham Market on return due to fog at base.
1St/Lt J. Hartshorn from 419 squadron was attacked by a JU-88, there
was no claim or damage.
F/Sgt W. McAdam from 420 Squadron was attacked by a JU-88, it was claimed
damaged.
F/O E. Aldred was attacked by an ME-109, it was claimed destroyed.
P/O J. Boadway had the port fin split, the Halifax vibrated severely
on return.
P/O H. Foy overshot the landing and ended up in a ditch, the crew was
uninjured.
F/Sgt R. McKay overshot the landing at Chipping Warden; there were
slight damages to the rudders.
P/O R. Kalle was attacked by a FW-190 out bound. The Halifax caught
fire. They went into a dive and released the load and the fire went out
and it was noticed that Sgt J. Elsliger RCAF, the mid upper gunner had
bailed out. The rear gunner kept firing and claimed the FW-190 as destroyed.
They returned safely to base without further incident.

W/O2 J. Jean, F/Sgt J. Gaudry, W/Cdr L. Lecomte, P/O C. Jones, and
P/O P. Hache landed at Barford St. John on return.
W/O2 V. Vincent tried to land at Shipdham due to a fuel shortage. They
overshot 4 times in poor visibility and crash-landed. The crew was not
injured.
W/Cdr E. Hamber, F/Lt B. Hughes, F/Sgt J. Williamson, W/O2 M. Thompson,
and F/O S. Gerard from 426 Squadron landed at Upper Heyford on return due
to fog at base.
P/O W. Taylor landed at Waterbeach on return due to fog at base.
F/Lt R. Jarman and F/Sgt R. Sellen landed at Wellesbourne Mountford
on return due to fog at base.
S/Ldr I. McRobie and F/Lt P. Logan landed at Westcott on return due
to fog at base.

While most crews went to Bourg Leopold, 43 Halifaxes from 431, 433,
and 434 Squadrons were ordered to attack the coastal guns at Le Clipon.
The crews were over the target at between 6,000 and 7,500 feet, releasing
339,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, the guns were accurately
bombed.
F/Lt F. Guillevan from 431 Squadron returned early as the stbd outer
was u/s. They landed safely at base on 3 engines.
21 Halifaxes from 428 and 433 Squadrons were ordered on a mining operation
to Heligoland, St. Malo and Brest. The crews were over the gardens at between
12,000 and 15,000 feet, sowing 44@1500 lb mines.
W/O2 J. Mitchell and F/Sgt F. Devine landed at Middleton St. George
on return.
